~lil things people do that annoy artists~

  • tagging designs for use in your own creative projects, like
    OC Name Here alt forms’
or ‘just like what the guards in my story wear!’ or (if you’re an RP
blog) ‘my muse’/’muse reference’, or something weird like ‘pets’/’my toys’
  • Reposting art of an artist’s original character as ~your
    muse~ for RP.
  • tagging art possessively, like as ‘kin’. Yall don’t know if that’s a personal character or not.
  • asking to use one
picture as an icon/header/whatever, and then assuming that gives you permission to use ANY
  • NOT asking to use art and doing it anyway.
  • Tagging original content as fandom content. It’s usually an
honest mistake but at least try not to do it if you actually follow the artist.
  • making passive aggressive comments (as a stranger) like “lmao
what’s up with that hair”, ”you missed _____ detail, better redraw it haha!”. It’s hard to tell if a stranger is being
sarcastic or lighthearted through text, so even if these comments aren’t meant
badly, they come off as…real not good.
  • Saying stuff like “this isn’t so bad”
or “hey, this is actually decent”. Wow, glad my creative thing wasn’t
    as terrible as you expected.
  • Using art of original characters as those little icons for kintype pages, your own oc directory, etc

  • If the artist makes a mistake in the text or drawing, or
cracks a too-awkward joke you feel the need to respond to, maybe check and see
if 3234 other people haven’t corrected them already in the notes/comments.
  • deleting artist comments to keep your blog ~pristine~
  • fuckin pinterest reposters

i don’t usually reblog these things but i’m going back through the notes/tags/asks people left about my art while i was gone and between peeps straight up strip mining my lore for their own creative projects (i’m talking like reblogging downtrodden stuff and noting to themselves to take whole pieces of history or symbolism), and reposting my biz e v e r y w h e r e without sourcing back (its not a big deal at all as long as you slap that link up there my dudes i don’t even care) its got me a little salty. please don’t do the thing.

i probably wouldn’t care as much if it was fanart or something but these are my oc’s and my lore. i don’t care if people interact with them. i love when people make fanbuns and get tattoos and make headcannons, that’s really fun and inspires me to do more so you guys can have even more fun with it! the Downtrodden stuff is, at its core, a big weird webseries meant to engage people. but claiming my oc’s and worlds so you can use them in your own work is pretty shitty. i’m not saying you can’t use my original critters for a dnd game or something, that’s cool, but  don’t claim they’re yours and don’t try to make money off of them.
