When attacked, the blue-tongued skink opens its mouth wide and reveals its bright blue, ultraviolet-reflective tongue. The flash of color startles predators, often giving the skink a chance to escape. There are seven species of blue-tongued skink, all found on Australia, New Guinea, or Indonesia.
Most species are diurnal, ground-foraging omnivores. (x x x x)
